Updated 25 October 2026England only

We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use our pages (for example which sections they read and where they click), so we can improve them. We run Clarity in its no-cookie mode, so it doesn't store cookies on your device. Clarity hides the text you type into forms and calculators by default.

If you start a document before creating an account, your answers may be saved in your browser's local storage so you don't lose your progress. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings.

If this changes, for example if we add a cookie that isn't strictly necessary, we'll ask for your consent first and update this page.

This guide explains the law in England as it stood on 25 October 2026. It is general information, not legal advice on your situation. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have different rules. See our editorial policy for how we research and check our guides.
